A Place That Warms the Heart
We are a non-profit organization providing free grief support groups in the Shreveport/Bossier City area in Louisiana.
Established in 1993 Contact: Leigh Peregoy for addtional information
Our groups are held twice a year in the spring and fall.
The groups include:
Children's Group
Utilizing various techniques, our children's facilitator works with kids ages 5 to 12 who have experienced the loss of a significant person in their life. Each child learns to share their grief story in a safe, supportive environment. Children do not know how to identify their emotions or to express them appropriately but with our guidance they can learn. Children learn to grieve from watching the adults in their life. Unfortunately, the parent/parents and the grandparents are usually dealing with their own loss and trying to be "brave" for the child.
Adolescent Group
Teens, age 13 to 18, are in the most emotionally turbulent time in their lives. They need guidance as well. And, they also need to learn how to identify and express their feelings appropriately. Most of the children and teens we have worked with over the last 16 years have been grieving the loss of a parent, grandparent, or sibling. In recent years, more teens are grieving over a friend that has committed suicide. This requires professionals who are well trained.
Adult Group
This group is for adult's with a significant loss such as a spouse, a sibling, a parent, or a close friend.
Parents' Group
We offer a separate group for those adults who are dealing with the death of a child. This is such a difficult loss for a parent and we feel it needs special attention.
Group information
As stated above, our group sessions are provided twice a year. Our spring groups will begin in March, 2010. Each Tuesday evening following the start date, we will meet from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm for eight weeks. All four groups meet on the same evening.
Where: Broadmoor Baptist Church on Youree Drive in Shreveport.
When: Tuesday nights for eight weeks.
There is no charge for the groups
Although we are all trained health and mental health professionals with extensive training in grief, we do not provide psychotherapy to individuals who attend our groups.
